Vintage Fisher Price Pick Up 'N Peek
#522 Matching Colors Puzzle
Excellent (B)
Here is a HTF, Vintage Fisher Price Pick Up 'N Peek #522 Matching Colors puzzle for your inspection. This puzzle consists of 5 pieces, all of which are equipped with a yellow peg to help little fingers easily remove the pieces from the puzzle. The puzzle was designed for 2- 5 year old children. Manufactured between 1980-84, the puzzle resembles one of Fisher Prices #932 School play sets. The detail is AMAZING. All of the pieces, when removed, has an underlying litho depicting various items which are associated with the highlighted color. This is a WONDERFUL puzzle for beginning language learners. The puzzle provides loads of opportunities to highlight assorted vocabulary, language based concepts (e.g. in/out/under, color names, action vocabulary etc.), Wh- questions (e.g. "Who is fishing?" "Where is the teacher?") and memory activities. The lithos are captivating and spark a lot of conversational attempts. It is also a great introduction to single piece puzzles to enhance fine motor coordination. In my opinion, this puzzle is in EXC++ condition. The only "imperfections" I can find are:
1. One small chip on the upper left hand corner of the puzzle
2. Some faint creasing on the interior whale and pumpkin patch lithos and some light soiling on the farmer litho; I believe the latter will come off during the cleaning process
3. Some slight lifting of the wooden surface between the school house and the sun; I will be attempting to remedy this by applying some Rubber Cement and sustained pressure on that area; I have done this before with great success
4. Some minor edge wear on a few puzzle pieces
5. One, 1/2" L x 1/8 W" indentation on the lower right hand corner of the puzzle
6. A few pin-head size rubs on the interior crocodile and whale lithos
7. Some faint remnants of a couple of marks on the back of two puzzle pieces; Note: the stain showing on the back of one of the puzzle pieces was caused by the cleaning agent I used to try and eliminate the mark; this stain is no longer evident and the mark is considerably reduced
8. A couple of what appears to be gray paint on the back of one of the puzzle pieces
9. Some soiling, indentations (e.g. caused by the pegs from other puzzles), and some minor edge wear around the back edges of the puzzle
That's it! All of the interior lithos are generally in EXC++-NEAR MINT condition. I've taken close-up pictures of these "imperfections" but I doubt that they even show on my pictures---they're that insignificant. I know my description sounds horrible. However, I am being super "nit-picky" here because I don't want anyone to be disappointed by their purchase from me.
The imprint on the back of the puzzle indicates it was manufactured in Malta for Fisher Price Toys, copyright 1971-1972-1973-1976-1979, The Quaker Oats Co.
This solid wood puzzle exemplifies Fisher Price's reputation for durable, classic toys. The puzzle weighs 1 lb., 4 oz. UNWRAPPED and my location is Lafayette, IN (47905).
