"The Circus is coming, the Circus is Coming! Here is a STUNNING, Vintage Fisher Price #902 Junior Circus for your consideration. This set is EXCEEDINGLY hard to find with all of its 22 pieces and in this condition (EXC--EXC++). Manufactured between 1963-70, the play set includes 11 solid wood animals and circus performers that have movable white plastic arms and legs along with 11 circus props such as a trapeze, ladders, an aerial spinner, poles, ladders, and center ring. Two of the first pieces that usually went missing were the red plastic ball that the seal can perch on top of its nose and the black wooden tub. This particular offering includes both of these rare pieces. Missing items are the canister lid and original instructions.
Specifically, the play set consists of the following:
2 HTF red, wooden ladders w/white rungs (both VG+-VG++---one ladder has a small crack on the upper left hand side of the ladder; I will be securing this with Lazer Glue or Krazy Glue so that it doesn't break all the way; I'm confident this glue will rectify the issue; that same ladder has some mild-moderate paint loss on the bottom of the legs of the ladder and a few indentations on the one side of the ladder; the rest of the paint on this ladder is a vibrant red with no paint loss; the second ladder also evidences some mild paint loss and wear on both ends of the ladder; it also displays some isolated spots with paint loss; additionally, the red veneer is missing on the bottom hole of the ladder; the hole is still viable and the loss of the veneer doesn't interfere with the ladder's overall functioning;
2 RARE yellow wood dowells (VG+-VG++--some paint loss and dulling of paint consistent with age; I just now found a crack on one of the dowells; I will be repairing it as described above; the other dowell appears to have some shallow teeth marks on it);
1 RARE yellow aerial spinner (EXC++--scuffs on the end of two of the extension bars; found these via touch);
1 RARE yellow trapeze (EXC--possible tiny teeth marks near the holes that attach the trapeze to the yellow dowell rods);
2 RARE yellow connectors (VG++-EXC--some scratches and soiling; I'm confident the soiling will come off during the cleaning process);
1 VHTF 7" diameter yellow center ring with a hole in the center and several rectangular holes to hold the allow the figures or anchor the circus rigging (EXC++-some soiling and surface scuffs; couple of water spots on the bottom of the center ring);
1 EXTREMELY RARE red plastic ball (MINT);
1 RARE black wooden tub (NEAR MINT---numerous teensy indentations on both the top and bottom of the tub; these are not "nibbles;" they may just be part of the wooden piece itself);
1 HTF storage container with original string (VG+-VG++- multiple dents and a few spots of rust on the bottom metal plate, along with several rubs, creases, splits, and nicks on the exterior lithos; moderate edge wear on the upper rim of the canister.
The animal and circus performers are comprised of wooden figures covered with appealing lithos and white plastic appendages. They include:
1 VHTF Baby Jumbo elephant (EXC++-NEAR MINT--very minor wear on the blanket litho; legs are a tad loose; however, the elephant readily holds a pose);
1 HTF horse (EXC++-NEAR MINT--scratch on upper right flank of horse; lithos still intact; joints are tight; one pin-head size black mark on right rear leg; hopefully, this will come off during the cleaning process);
1 VHTF tiger (NEAR MINT---1/8"L blue mark on left rear foot; once again, I hope this will come off with cleaning; tight joints);
1 RARE bear (EXC-EXC++-few tiny rubs on both sides of the bear; tiny red mark on left lower leg; may or may not come off with cleaning; top appendages are tight; lower limbs are a tad loose);
1 VHTF dog (EXC++-NEAR MINT--minor edge wear along with some rubs on right side near rear leg; joints are tight);
1 VHTF giraffe (NEAR MINT--tight joints; teensy amount of edge wear);
1 VHTF camel (EXC-- 1 1/2" scratch below chin, pin-head size rub, and minor edge wear on left hand side of litho; small tear on back portion of right side of head; minor edge wear; tight joints);
1 RARE clown (EXC---minor rubs and tiny amount of edge wear; lower legs are a little loose but still can hold a pose; arm joints are firm);
1 RARE monkey (VG++--missing pipe cleaner tail; minor edge wear; tight joints; NOTE: the pipe cleaner tail is often missing on these monkeys; it can be replaced with a similar length pipe cleaner and a hot glue gun; I will be leaving it up to the new owner to do this);
1 RARE seal (EXC+-EXC+++--NOTE: The pictures that I originally took of this seal in group animal shots showed some marked loss of litho on both sides of the seal; I have since removed that seal and replaced it with another seal that doesn't not have any litho loss; I have provided separate individual shots of the seal that you will be receiving); and
1 RARE Ringmaster (VG++-EXC---minor edge wear; tight joints; some small gray spots and a few rubs on both sides of the Ringmaster).
The graphics on these lithos are whimsical and engaging. The colors are as bright as when they were first manufactured. I have painstakingly put this set together using the best pieces I could possibly find from all across the U.S.
According to Fisher Price, this set was originally designed for children 3-6 years of age. I can see children older than this (up to age 9) still enjoying this set. However, children below 3 years of age or still mouthing their toys should not be given these toys. Parental supervision is advised.
This play set is not part of the recent recall of Fisher Price toys made in China. This set was made in the good ole' U.S.A. in 1963. It's amazing how this set has survived for 49 years and still belies Fisher Price's reputation for imaginative and durable toys.
This play set weighs @ 2 lbs., 12 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905).
