Vintage Fisher Price Play Family
#931 Hospital
Complete + Bonus
EXC+++ (Q)
"Got your flu shot? Meet me at the Fisher Price Children's Hospital for high quality care!" Here is a CLASSIC, Vintage Fisher Price Little People Hospital play set (#931) in EXC+++ condition. Best of all it is 100% COMPLETE and includes BONUS accessories. The Hospital's EXTERIOR lithos are intact, clean, and bright with clear, crisp graphics. The colors are RIVETING---no fading here! There are no ABSOLUTELY no stains, discolorations, tears, or rubs observed. I've literally gone over this piece with "a fine tooth comb." The ONLY imperfections I can find are :
1. One 1/4 mark on the front flap Hospital litho (e.g. between the front door and the lower right hand window);
2. Six, tiny bubbles (e.g. 1/8" L x 1/8" W) coursing from the left hand corner of the front Hospital flower bed litho across the front door; these are barely visible due to their location amongst the flowers and bushes; you literally have to place the front of the Hospital within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light to see these;
3. One, 1" L intermittent vertical series of teensy bubbles (less than 1/16" L x 1/16" W) along with a vertical 1" L x 1/8" W bubble with a smattering of tiny intermittent vertical bubbles under the lower right hand window on the front Hospital litho;
4. One, 1/4" L x 1/8" W bubble on the Fisher Price litho on the roof; this bubble is directly under the "M" in "Family;" it's also extremely hard to see; in fact, I doubt you would have noticed it if I hadn't pointed it out;
5. Nine, small bubbles ranging from 1/16"L x 1/16"W to the largest, 5/8"L x 1/4" W, on the litho with the red crank;
6. Approximately a dozen bubbles of assorted sizes (e.g. the largest being 3/4"L x 1/4" W) on the flag litho; and
7. Three bubbles on the Bus Stop litho; one is virtually invisible since it is on top of the hem of the nurse's uniform that is standing in the window; one of the others is on top of the bus stop sign.
I know my description sound horrendous; however, most of these aberrations aren't visible unless you hold the base up within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light. They do not jump out at you while the set is on display or during play. I would rate these lithos as being EXC-EXC+++ condition.
The interior lithos are in exceptional condition (EXC+++-NEAR MINT). The only "flaws" I can spy are:
1. A couple of small bubbles on the nursing window litho;
2. Three large bubbles located on the lower left hand corner of the playground litho; there is also a 1/2"L x 1/16 horizontal bubble on the blue "carpet" on the same litho; a light stain on the front edge of the playground litho; I have removed as much of it as I can; the rest is there to stay;
3. An intermittent vertical smattering of small bubbles above the large bubbles in the lower left hand corner of the playground litho; and
4. A 1"L x 1/2" W horizontal bubble over the doctor litho on the interior Fisher Price litho along with a couple of other small bubbles on the same litho.
I'm being super "nit-picky" in my descriptions. I don't want anyone to be disappointed by their purchase from me. Once again, the "flaws" I've listed above on the INTERIOR lithos are EXTEMELY minor in nature. All of the INTERIOR lithos are free of any marks, punctures, rubs, or fading. They are GORGEOUS (EXC+++-NEAR MINT).
All of the EXTERIOR plastic surfaces are rich in color and free of any chips, "dings," fading, breaks, cracks, or abrasions. The only flaws I can discern are:
1. Two faint scratches on the rear roof; these scratches are not deep and have not displaced the color; and
2. Some orangish discoloration on the back interior wall of the elevator shaft; this appears to have been caused by the application of too much glue at the factory; I have thoroughly scrubbed this but it is here to stay; naturally, it does not show unless the elevator doors are open with the elevator poised on the second floor.
The hinges on the front flap are intact, with no cracks or chips, and the door latches securely when closed. The elevator, garage door, elevator doors, floor indicator arrow, and bell all work as designed. There are no cracks between the slats on the garage door. With the exception of the orangish glue residue in the elevator shaft, I would categorize the plastic surfaces on this piece as being in NEAR MINT - MINT condition.
Besides this IMPRESSIVE play base, this set includes the following accessories:
1 HTF red and white ambulance w/Fisher Price written on the wheels (MINT);
1 VHTF wheelchair (MINTY MINT);
1 VHTF scale (VG++-EXC---the red arrow stays stuck on 100);
1 VHTF operating table with attached oxygen mask (MINT);
1 RARE gurney w/velcro strap (MINT);
2 hospital chairs (one chair is in NEAR MINT condition with a tiny "ding" on the front edge of the seat; the other is in MINT condition);
1 HTF X-ray machine that works (MINT);
1 HTF hospital scrub sink (NEAR MINT--one small scuff on "counter");
2 HTF hospital beds with some residual ORIGINAL FOAM (VG+-VG++ condition---Since most collectors covet having some original foam in these beds, I will leave them as is unless the new owner requests that I remove it and insert some new, firm foam mattresses on each of these beds; I won't glue these mattresses in place in case the new owner wishes to remove them; once the new mattresses are in position, I believe these beds will warrant a NEAR MINT rating);
1 HTF cradle (MINT); and
1 RARE white bed screen (MINTY MINT).
To add to the fun, the set comes replete with a cast of hospital personnel and a family of four. These ALL PLASTIC Little People include:
1 VHTF, red bodied blonde girl with bangs (VG+--NOTE: I just now noticed that this red girl has a melt mark on her body; I will be replacing her for another red bodied girl with blonde bangs and bob that is in EXC condition or above);
1 tall, blue bodied Mom with blonde pony (MINTY MINT);
1 tall, green bodied Dad with black, heat stamped hair (NEAR MINT--minor rub to one tendril of hair);
1 RARE baby without bib (MINTY MINT; NOTE: THIS PIECE IS UNIQUE TO THIS SET; FP produced other babies with bibs or with a bonnet and bib but they did NOT go with the Hospital play set);
1 HTF Caucasian doctor (NEAR MINT---light rub to right eyebrow);
1 HTF African American ambulance driver (NEAR MINT--light rub to one hair tendril); and
1 RARE Nurse with mask (MINTY MINT).
To add to the number of open-ended play possibilities, I have included a number of BONUS pieces:
1 HTF yellow bodied boy with red cap facing forward and smile (VG+--scuff on top of cap; hint of some "nibbles" on the hat brim);
1 RARE blue bodied Truck Drive with w/blue hat (VG+--light wear on back of hat and around bottom of piece: NOTE: this figure is considered to be a "whitie;" sometimes FP didn't put enough flesh colored dye in the plastic and the result was a figure with a white face; these are desired by collectors);
1 green bodied girl with rust sculpted hair, freckles, and a smile (MINT); and
1 VHTF coral bodied, blonde haired Mom w/pony (MINT).
I have already thoroughly Q-tip cleaned this play base and all of its accessories. I spend a MINIMUM of 1 1/2 -5 hours cleaning each and every VINTAGE Fisher Price play set I sell (except for those clearly marked in MY ROUGH ROOM). I clean EVERY nook and cranny in these VINTAGE Fisher Price play sets (e.g. including up inside the elevator tower, the ceiling, the underside of the base etc. etc.). My sets are IMMACULATE!
This is DEFINITELY an AWESOME Fisher Price Hospital that would appeal to a rabid Fisher Price collector or some lucky child.
REMEMBER, this VINTAGE Fisher Price play set is NOT included in the recent Fisher Price recall of toys manufactured in China. This play set was manufactured in the good ole' U.S.A. in 1976!!!! It's 40 years young and still exemplifies Fisher Price's reputation for imaginative, durable toys. Why take the chance on buying junk or toys that may contain dangerous amounts of lead when you can buy a classic toy like this?
Purchasers should refrain from allowing children under 3 years of age to play with these toys without adult supervision or to offer these toys to children who may be still mouthing their toys.
This set weighs approximately 4 1/2 -5 lbs. UNWRAPPED. My zip code is 47905 (INDIANA).
