Vintage Fisher Price Play Family
#991 4 Car Circus Train
Complete/ VG+-VG++ (O)

" I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. What a wonderful children's book, "The Little Engine that Could." Here's the perfect toy to accompany this classic story book, a COMPLETE VINTAGE Fisher Price #991 4 Car Circus Train play set in VG++ condition. Manufactured between 1973-78, this CLASSIC play set is the earlier 4 car version and comes with its original pull string. This particular addition included the flat, gondola car and the giraffe.
Composing this DELIGHTFUL play set are:
1 engine with original pull string that heartily "toots" when the train whistle is pressed (VG+--the ONLY "imperfections" I can detect are: some light surface scratches on the roof of the cab; a small chip on the white plastic strip behind the right side wheels; a light brown stain on the left-hand side Circus Train litho; I'm not sure whether this will come out during the cleaning process; there is also a small bubble on the back edge of the right hand Circus Train litho; some edge wear on the two lower corners of the headlight litho along with a couple of minor marks on the left side of the same litho; some scattered "nibbles" on the pull string; some "dings" on the front red edges and on the white back edges of the engine; moderate edge wear on the bottom of the wheels);
1 VHTF green gondola car (VG++-EXC--one thin bubble, one thin vertical crease, and one tiny tear on the left hand lion litho; minor edge wear, one, 1/2" L x 1/4" bubble, one pin-head size tear on the right hand litho; a few "dings" on the white under carriage of the car; "hint" of some barely detectable chews on the "C hook;"
1 VHTF blue cage car (VG+--one upper yellow corner has been chipped off; I hadn't even noticed this until I started cropping my photos; numerous "dings" on both side edges of the white undercarriage of the car; some light soiling and minor tear on the upper left hand giraffe litho; I believe the light soiling will come off during the cleaning process; several rubs, light brown stains, and minor edge wear on the right hand giraffe litho; I'm not certain that these stains will come off as they appear more entrenched than the other side; some minor edge wear on both clown lithos at the end of the car; some moderate "road wear" on the bottom of the wheels);
1 HTF red caboose (VG+--intermittent hair-line creases, both vertically and horizontally, on the left hand side litho; two tiny bubbles on the right hand litho; some roughness on the white undercarriage back edges; not chews; four yellow corners on the very top of the roof exhibit "dings"; mild-moderate edge wear on wheels);
1 HTF blue elephant (VG+-VG++-bold facial features; ears and tail totally intact and free of chews; ears evidence multiple scuffs and scratches; joints are firm; some faint yellowing on top of elephant's back and discoloration of trunk due to age; one tiny, possible "melt mark" on the top of the elephant's head; this is only visible when you hold the elephant up within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light; one, 1/2" L x 1/4" W melt mark on the rear edge of the left front foot);
1 HTF lion with dark brown mane and circle on belly (VG++-EXC--some scuffs and "dings" on mane; tail intact and free of chews; all joints firm; facial features are robust and sharp);
1 VHTF monkey with tail (VG++-- complete tail with NO CHEWS; all joints are firm; minimal edge wear to both feet; light rubs to both hands; "ding" on upper right back--color has not been displaced; found this through touch; some fading of right nostril);
1 HTF grey bear (VG++-EXC--light mark on bear's belly; not sure if this will come off during the cleaning process; one indentation on upper edge of left ear; unsure what caused this; distinctive facial features; joints somewhat loose but still can hold a pose;
1 VHTF giraffe (EXC--balls on tips of horns and tail are intact and free of chews; minor rub on right nostril; couple of minor rubs to brown spots on left legs);
1 VHTF short, PLASTIC blue engineer w/high angled cap (VG+-VG++--couple of subtle "nibbles" on brim of cap; rest of piece is in MINT condition; NOTE: this version of the Circus Train originally came with a Wood/plastic engineer; since I didn't have any of these, I substituted the all plastic version used in later sets);
1 VHTF short, WOOD/plastic red bodied clown w/yellow pointed hat (EXC-EXC++--some roughness on the very tip of the clown's hat; probably caused by a child's tooth; rest of piece MINTY MINT); and
1 VHTF short, WOOD/plastic ringmaster with mustache and top hat (NEAR MINT--pin-head size rubs to the lower margin of both eyes; virtually invisible to the naked eye).
THIS set would make a fabulous gift for some lucky child or a beginning Fisher Price Collector!
I've tried to be as thorough and honest about this set as I can. I'd rather be "nit-picky" than have someone disappointed in what they were purchasing.
