Vintage Fisher Price
Play Family #994 Camper
Complete with Wood/Plastic Little People
and Original String/ EXC--EXC++ (N)
RESTORED

It's time to hit the road!" Here's a darling Fisher Price Little People #994 Play Family Camper that is 100% COMPLETE! This play set is a CLASSIC Fisher Price toy and one that all Fisher Price collectors covet. When you push the camper, it makes a motor sound and the people in the front seat bounce up and down. The camper home detaches from the pick-up truck and the rowboat fits on top of the camper's sunroof. All of the CAMPER'S and TRUCK'S EXTERIOR and INTERIOR lithos are original to this set. I do not use reproduction or replacement lithos in my play sets unless they are egregiously damaged. In these cases, I offer the buyer a replacement litho(s) free of charge. I supply the buyer with instructions on how to apply these reproduction lithos but in the event the buyer requests assistance, I will apply the replacement litho for the buyer. In general, I would consider this particular #994 Play Family Camper set to be in EXC--EXC++ condition. I have configured this set to correspond with Fisher Price's 1974 specifications.
The EXTERIOR Camper and Truck lithos on the right-hand side are intact and brightly colored (EXC--EXC++). However, the lithos on the left-hand side of the Camper and the Truck exhibit some damage (e.g. tears, rubs, soiling, and possibly staining. I'm not sure a thorough cleaning will ameliorate this soiling/staining. All in all, I would consider the left-hand side lithos for the CAMPER and the TRUCK to be in VG-VG+ condition. Finally, the dashboard litho exhibits a couple of pin-head size rubs on the its edges.
STOP!!!! Above is what I originally wrote about this special play set. Much to my chagrin, you will also see photos of the same set with much more damage to its Camper and Truck lithos. What happened is this: In my attempt to see what difference some replacement lithos might make on the overall quality of this offering, I held up the replacement lithos with scotch tape on the original lithos. I've done this before so that I could illustrate how the set might look with repro lithos. I've never had a problem with the magic scotch tape latching onto the original lithos. Unfortunately, this time my actions irreparably damaged the Camper and Truck lithos.
As a result, I will be totally restoring this Camper and Truck with replacement lithos. I'm offering these free of charge to the buyer. Ordinarily, I do not apply these replacement lithos myself because I don't want potential buyers to think I routinely sell "doctored" sets. I offer these replacement lithos purely as a service to my buyers. However, in this case, I will be replacing all of the EXTERIOR Camper and Truck lithos and possibly the INTERIOR floor litho.
These reproduction lithos are the finest replacement lithos out there. The lady that makes these lithos is in Canada and has been making these for over 10 years. She uses a heavy duty True-Block paper with a peel off sticky back along with a professional grade printer. She calibrates her printer to match a set of unused, vintage FP lithos she procured from a former FP employee. These replacement lithos are as close as you can come to the real deal. Her replacement lithos are water resistant. You may see other competitors out there. However, the ink on their lithos is not water resistant and the paper is of inferior quality. It's totally up to the buyer if they wish to take advantage of this offer. All the buyer needs to do is peel off the sticky back on the reproduction litho and apply it to the clean, plastic surface. That's it! With these replacement lithos, this set would easily garner an EXC+++ rating.
The INTERIOR CAMPER lithos (counter top and floor) show some light soiling together with a couple of tiny rubs on the floor litho (EXC-EXC+). I believe the soiling will be remedied with a thorough Q-tip cleaning. If not, then I will be replacing the counter top lithos as well.
The INTERIOR BOAT litho is in NEAR MINT-MINT condition. The bottom of the boat exhibits a few, light surface scratches, scuffs, and a pin-head size black mark. I may be able to minimize the scuffs and surface scratches via an application of Armor All wipes and a gentle buffing. Hopefully, the tiny black mark will also come off during the cleaning process. In any event, these "imperfections" DEFINITELY do not detract from the overall appearance of the boat while it is in play or on display.
The plastic surfaces of the truck, camper and boat have generally retained their original colors. Noted "imperfections" consist of the following:
1. Some mild-moderate scuffing on the upper rails of the truck bed, on the outer portions of the truck's roll bar, and on the camper roof; some of these may buff out following a generous application of Armor All Wipes; however, I do not believe all of these will be eliminated during the cleaning process;
2. Little, if any, "road wear" on the red tires;
3. Some soiling and one light black mark on the front bumper; this should resolve with a careful cleaning;
4. Some glue residue on the lower edge of the window frame located on the left-hand size of the bunk beds; this glue residue resulted from excess glue being applied in the factory; it's here to stay; I don't know of anything that will remove these stains;
5. A 1/2" scratch/crack on the yellow trim adjacent to the right-hand side of the "patio" on the back of the camper; since this has not permeated the plastic through to the other side, I feel this is a scratch; however, to guarantee that this will not expand, I will be applying some Krazy Glue or clear Elmer's Glue on the spot;
6. A cluster of dark purple or brown marks on the right, outside patio edge; I'm not sure whether this will come off during the cleaning process;
7. Some glue residue on the yellow plastic wall beneath the bunk beds. From experience, I know this will not come off during the cleaning process.
Due to age, the foam in the Camper's bunk beds has disintegrated. I will be replacing the Camper's missing mattresses with a firm, tan foam. I have included some photos of this foam for your inspection. This new foam is firm and cut to fit the four individual beds. I will not be gluing these in place so the buyer will be able to remove them if they wish to use something else. In my opinion, the plastic surfaces of both the truck, camper, and boat warrant an EXC--EXC++-rating. The original pull string is attached and the truck still makes a ratchety sound when it is pushed or pulled.
All of the set's original accessories are included in this offering. With the exception of the red ladder (EXC), all of the accessories and WOOD/plastic Little People are in EXC++--MINT condition. You will be receiving the following:
1 HTF red table with hot dog litho (NEAR MINT);
1 VHTF red patio table with yellow umbrella (NEAR MINT--MINT; NOTE: The spring has slightly darkened due to age. I will be applying Naval Jelly on the spring. This should result in brightening up the spring's appearance);
1 VHTF red grill (MINT--NOTE: The original litho has come loose on one side; I will be re-anchoring this litho with clear glue);
1 RARE red ladder (VG+--some scuffs and a the "hint" of a few, isolated teeth marks);
4 HTF red captain's chairs with triangles on the back of the chairs (NEAR MINT);
1 HTF yellow motorcycle (MINT);
1 HTF white potty (VG++--a few light scratches on the lid of the toilet; I will be bleaching both the potty and sink to restore their original stark white color);
and 1 HTF white single sink (EXC++--NEAR MINT);
1 HTF, tall, WOOD/plastic, green bodied Dad with black heat-stamped hair (EXC--minimal paint loss commensurate with age around the rim of the piece);
1 VHTF, WOOD/plastic, yellow bodied boy with red cap facing forward, freckles,and a frown (MINT; NOTE: I substituted this frowning boy for a yellow bodied boy with a red cap facing forward, freckles, and a smile);
1 HTF, WOOD/plastic, tall, blue bodied Mom with flirty eyes and a blonde pony (NOTE: I replaced the Mom that is in my photos because she had a crack in the front part of her hair; the new Mom is in MINTY MINT condition);
1 VHTF, WOOD/plastic, red bodied girl with bobbed blonde hair w/bangs (MINTY MINT); and
1 ALL PLASTIC, Lucky, the dog, with a blue collar and links on the collar (MINT).
I've tried to be as thorough and honest about this set as I can. I've supplied "before and after" photos so you can visualize how the Camper will look when the replacement lithos are applied.
All in all, this is a GREAT play set for a beginning Fisher Price collector or some lucky child. Once this set is cleaned and restored as described above, it's my belief that the set will warrant an EXC--EXC++ rating.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this play set using a variety of cleaning products: Q-tips, toothpicks, a child's tooth brush, Dawn, Soft Scrub, Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, Goo Gone, Clorox Bleach etc. I spend a minimum of 1 1/2 hours cleaning every play set I sell (except for those clearly marked as being in My Rough Room). My sets are IMMACULATE!
REMEMBER, this VINTAGE Fisher Price play set is NOT included in the recent Fisher Price recall of toys manufactured in China. This play set was manufactured in the good ole' U.S.A. in 1974!!!! It's 46 years young and still personifies Fisher Price's reputation for imaginative, durable toys.
This toy represents the "GOLDEN AGE" of Fisher Price toys---when kids could be kids and exercise their own imaginations instead of sitting there passively and watching a toy do everything for them. Open up the windows of your child's or grandchild's minds and watch them soar! I guarantee this toy will keep them actively engaged in play for hours:)
Purchasers should refrain from allowing children under 3 years of age to play with these toys without adult supervision or to offer these toys to children who may be still mouthing their toys.
This set weighs approximately 2 1/2 -3 lbs. UNWRAPPED. My zip code is 47905 (INDIANA).
