Vintage Fisher Price Fun-with-Food
#2021 Magic Scan Counter
Complete with Bonus/NEAR MINT--MINT! (F)

Here's an incredible set for 3-7 year old boys and girls alike. It is the RARE, Vintage Fisher Price Fun-with-Food #2102 Magic Scan Checkout Counter. Manufactured between 1988-90, this set is hard to find in working condition and with its pretend "microphone" intact. This play set is 100% complete plus I have inserted a couple of additional HTF Fisher Price Fun-with-Food items, a box of macaroni and cheese and a bottle of juice. The latter is not pictured in my photos.
The battery-operated checkout counter (two C batteries not included) has a moving conveyor belt that depicts different food products and personal items an individual might purchase at a grocery store. The conveyor belt advances whenever the child pushes the small green button under the blinking light. When the child "scans" a purchased item over the six sided "X" at the base of the conveyor belt, the "X" lights up, the machine beeps, and a red light goes on to show that the item has been scanned. The checkout counter also has a locking cash drawer that opens with a key. When the red button is depressed and the drawer is unlocked, the child can access five coins. There is a green spring- loaded scale to weigh produce, a plastic receipt that pops up, and a pretend blue microphone for all those "price checks" and store announcements. (NOTE: The aforementioned key is permanently attached so little "cashiers" won't misplace their key).
Moreover, the cash register has a pretend yellow keypad where the child can manually enter produce prices etc. When they do this, the red light glows and the register beeps. (NOTE: While the conveyor belt moves smoothly whenever the green button is depressed, the plastic receipt only pops up half-way. It can manually be pulled up all the way with little effort. I'm going to take a peek at this. I previously repaired the conveyor belt so that it wouldn't "hitch" but I didn't realize the receipt wasn't popping up all the way. I'll be taking this set apart again to see if I can remedy the receipt situation. If I'm not successful, then the receipt will still pop up half-way).
The set is accompanied by its original blue plastic shopping basket with green handles, one bottle of chocolate milk with its attached, flip-off lid, and a juicy red apple. All of these items were originally included with this Magic Scan Checkout Counter set. In addition, the set originally called for five plastic coins with "F" and "P" imprinted on one side. The original set came with two, red .05 cent coins, one blue coin, and two, yellow 25 cent coins. This particular offering likewise contains five plastic coins with "F" and "P" imprinted on one side. Specifically, the coins consist of the following: two, yellow 10 cent coins, one, red 25 cent coin, one, orange 5 cent coin, and one, blue 25 cent coins. Wouldn't it be great if groceries were still this cheap!
This set will keep little merchants busy for hours. Just think of all the Fun-with-Food items or other play food items that can be scanned with this machine! Everything on the machine works as designed (e.g. conveyor built moves smoothly, scanner lights up, red light glows, scale goes up and down, and the curved microphone with its pretend on and off button swivels up and down when needed. Unlike most sets that you may see for sale, this one does have its battery cover! The conveyor belt is free of any stains or marks. This is a gorgeous set.
In addition, this play set is accompanied by its original box. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect, I would rate this box as being a 9.0-9.5/10.0. The box exhibits some extraneous tape and tape residue, the remnants of a price tag, and very little edge wear. All of the flaps are intact and the graphics on this box are still bright and colorful. In my opinion, the box is still imminently displayable.
The set weighs approximately 4 1/2 - 5 lbs. UNWRAPPED and will require an over-sized box. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905). I will probably be shipping this play set via Fed Ex Home Delivery. In order to ship Fed Ex, I must have a residential address, not a P.O. box, and a contact phone number (e.g. home, cell, or work place). Otherwise, Fed Ex will not accept the package for delivery.
