Vintage Fisher Price Fun-with-Food
#2112 Pop Top Can Opener

Here is a mainstay of most American kitchens and one that little "cooks" can use in their imaginary play. It's a Vintage Fisher Price Fun-with-Food #2112 Pop-Top Can Opener Set. Manufactured between 1987-88, this ingenious device actually opens all of the round plastic food cans with flat lids that Fisher Price produced in conjunction with their wildly popular Fun-with-Food series.
The set consists of a white, plastic can opener that when a can is placed on the opener's platform and the yellow lever is lowered, the blue suction cup attaches to the can's lid. The child removes the can's lid by rotating the can on the platform. The latter is accomplished by turning the blue knob on the back side of the can opener until the a "boing" sound is heard. The child then lifts the yellow lever and voila, the lid comes off.
The front of the can opener features a knife sharper. When the child inserts the accessory knife into the groove and moves it back and forth, it makes a realistic sharpener sound. Although not pictured, the set also includes a solid blue bowl.
Other components of this set include: a blue and white plate, a blue bowl, a white fork, blue knife, and five helpings of vegetables (e.g. carrots, corn and lima beans). All of these pieces, with the exception of the vegetable can, are in EXC-EXC++ condition. The can litho displays three green streaks on the back side of the litho, a light brown stain (?) on the side of the litho, and some fading. Because of these, I would categorize the can as being in VG+-VG++ condition.
This is a fascinating toy for young children. It is child-activated and does not require any batteries. Made in the U.S.A., this play set belies Fisher Price's reputation for durable, imaginative play toys. This particular toy is 30 years young and still going strong.
I will be Q-tip cleaning this set and all of its accessories prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!
