Vintage Fisher Price Little People
#923 School
99% Complete/NEAR MINT--MINT! (O)

Remember the school days of yore? "Readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic., Talk to the tune of a hickory stick.....?" Here for your consideration is a 99% COMPLETE, Fisher Price Play Family #923 School in NEAR MINT--MINT condition. This offering features both letter and number magnetic trays, all the letters and numbers plus the 8 EXTRA letters featured in the original set, playground equipment, desks, and RARE ORIGINAL FISHER PRICE CHALK. The only thing missing from this set is the original eraser.
I generally tried to configure this play set according to the Fisher Price specs for the 1971--75 versions of the #923 School. This offering, however, does not completely match the descriptions provided by This Old Toy (www.thisoldtoy.com). Fisher Price was notorious for using whatever pieces they had on hand at the moment when putting together sets. Hence, there were numerous variations in the combination of colors used in a given set. This base is not the extended masonite base of the earlier sets but the rest of the piece matches the description of the earliest sets (e.g. litho of children looking out through plastic panes, the presence of the Fisher Price logo on the underneath side of the flap etc.). All of the lithos are present and are original to this piece.
ALL of the EXTERIOR and INTERIOR lithos of this base are STUNNING (NEAR MINT- MINT)! After repeated inspections, the ONLY "imperfections I can spy are:
1. Some loosening of the main Fisher Price logo as well as the interior Fisher Price litho; I will remedy these with some Rubber Cement so they shouldn't pose any future problems;
2. Three, barely perceptible indentations on the litho at the rear of the School; these indentations have not permeated the lithos and they are only visible if you hold the base up within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light;
3. Two small bubbles, the largest being 1/2" L x 1/4 W, located on the front school litho as well as the "shadow" of a light mark to the right of the clock litho; I believe the latter will be alleviated during the cleaning process; and
4. Multiple small, thin bubbles on the Bell Tower litho; these are virtually invisible by virtue of the patterned, "wooden shingles" being present.
All of the other EXTERIOR and INTERIOR lithos are in MINT condition. These lithos are brightly colored and smoothly adhered to their underlying surfaces. I do not see any fading, creases, or marks on any of the other exterior or interior lithos. These are some of the most beautiful School lithos I've ever seen.
The plastic surfaces are free of any cracks, chips, "dings," discolorations, breaks or repairs. The only thing amiss is one, light green mark on the roof. I believe this will come off during the cleaning process. In general, these plastic surfaces warrant a NEAR MINT--MINT rating.
All of the masonite corners on the base are free of any layering, smushing, cracking, repairs etc. The underneath side of the masonite base displays a small, faint outline of a long-ago water stain.
In my opinion, based on the quality of the original lithos, the virtually blemish free plastic surfaces, and the intact masonite base, I believe this base deserves a NEAR MINT-MINT rating.
In addition to this AWESOME base, you will be receiving all of the following accessories and Little People which are in NEAR MINT-MINT condition:
1 VHTF yellow/lime green swing set;
1 HTF lime green/yellow merry-go-round (NOTE: The center bolt on the turning piece displays some rust; I believe it will brighten up with a generous application of Naval Jelly);
4 HTF lime green student desks;
1 RARE yellow Teacher's chair;
1 RARE yellow Teacher's desk w/litho;
1 VHTF yellow slide;
1 VHTF magnetic letter tray;
1 RARE magnetic number tray;
1 RARE box of original Fisher Price chalk (all 3 pieces of the original chalk are unused and intact);
26 magnetic plastic letters (all labeled FP);
10 magnetic numbers (0-9; all labeled FP);
8 extra letters "E, I, L, N, P, R, S, T" as specified in the Fisher Price specs;
1 RARE, WOOD/WOOD, blue bodied girl with blonde pigtails;
1 RARE, WOOD/WOOD, green bodied girl with freckles and a red bobbed hair and bangs;
1 RARE, WOOD/WOOD, red bodied African-American boy with black, heat stamped hair;
1 RARE, WOOD/WOOD, green bodied boy with red, heat stamped hair, a "belt," and a metal rivet (this figure has a small, black mark on the back of its body and minimal paint loss on the shoulders, belt, and bottom of the piece); and
1 VHTF, WOOD/WOOD, blue bodied Teacher with blonde pony.
This is an HEIRLOOM QUALITY set and one that any avid Fisher Price collector would be proud to own. It would also make a great gift for some lucky child.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this base and all of its accessories before sending it to its new owners. I spend a MINIMUM of 1 1/2 hours cleaning each and every VINTAGE Fisher Price Little People play set that I sell (except those clearly identified as coming from MY ROUGH ROOM). I use a myriad of cleaning products ----Goo Gone, Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, Soft Scrub, Armor All Wipes, Comet, Chlorox Bleach pen, Dawn, Naval Jelly etc. to clean these sets. My sets are IMMACULATE! They're immediately ready to go on display or to give to some lucky child for play.
Remember, these VINTAGE Fisher Price toys are NOT designed for children under 3 years of age or those who are still mouthing their toys. Adult supervision is STRONGLY recommended.
Also, these VINTAGE Fisher Price toys are NOT part of the recent recall of toys manufactured in China. This play set was produced in the good ol' USA 48 years ago. They sure don't make durable toys like this any more!
This set weighs @ 6 lbs., 12 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905).
