Vintage Fisher Price Precious Places
#5188 Grandstand Pet Pageant
Complete /NR MINT- MINT! (E)

Everyone is proud of their pets. Look at all the participants in the Westminister Dog Show in New York. Here's a chance for your child to enter their pet in a pageant and possibly win a trophy!
In 1989, Fisher Price created a village of collectible houses, accessories, and people that could be manipulated via magnetic keys. They called this village Precious Places. The village was interconnected by special elevated sidewalks that animals, people, and accessories could traverse using the magnetic key. In addition, many of the buildings possessed special features that could be controlled utilizing these magnetic keys (e.g. turn on the lights, manipulate ceiling fans, rock cradles, open doors etc.). Each building and accessory set afforded its own unique key.
Here for your consideration is one, 100% complete add-on accessory set to this "magic world," the HTF Precious Places #5188 Grandstand Pet Pageant. This set was only manufactured from 1989 to 1990. This accessory set provided a forum for all of the pets in the Precious Place village to compete for the outstanding pet of the year. The set itself consists of a raised, light lavender pet pageant base with a curved front for the stage area. The elevated stage permits the child to use the light lavender magnetic key to parade the pets around the stage.
The pageant base exhibits a multi-colored litho (e.g. flower gardens on either side of the base and a pretend "brick" pathway around a Precious Places star for the winning pet). The pageant base also features two, small purple flags on each corner of the stage. The aqua grandstand, positioned at the rear of the stage, allows the first, second, and third place winners to proudly pose and provides space for the coveted blue trophy with its lid. The grandstand is adorned with a couple of #1 pink ribbons and a lavender colored litho on its back wall with a blue ribbon and #1 in the center of the litho. In my opinion, the stage and grandstand warrant a NEAR MINT-MINT rating.
Other accessories to this set include a lavender show ramp that has an oval stage on top and a little ramp on the side. Both the oval stage and ramp possess slightly elevated edges to prevent falls. The pampered pets are: Poppy Puppy (a lovable dog with orange spots on her back left leg, hip, and right ear and blue ribbons on both ears) and Stripes the Kitty (white cat with light purple or pink(?) stripes on it's head, back and front legs and a pink collar with a blue ribbon). By moving the magnetic key under the stage, the child can move the animals around the stage. The child can also assist the pet in sliding down the slide using the "magic key."
Note: Due to the number of small parts and the presence of small magnets, these toys were designed for children ages 5 years and up. They DEFINITELY should not be given to children under age 3 as the parts are too small for them to easily manipulate and they pose a choking hazard.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!
