Here for your perusal is the coveted Playmobil #4404 Hospital play set. Manufactured between 2007-2012, this set won an unprecedented number Playmobil #4404 Hospital play set. Manufactured between 2007-2012, this set won an unprecedented number of prestigious awards including: Parent's Magazine 2007 Toy Award, The Oppenheimer Gold Award, Dr. Toy Award, Teacher's Choice Award, Scholastic Greatest Toy Award etc. While Playmobil is still offering some "add-on" hospital-related play sets, they retired the #4404 Hospital in 2012. This offering is 99.9% complete. It includes the original box, instructions, two-sided poster, and small Playmobil pamphlet. The only item missing is one small cardboard "game."
This is an incredibly detailed and massive play set (e.g. 29.5" L x 19.6" W x 15.7" H). Designed for children ages 4 years old and up, the figures and accessories are all proportioned to their real-life counterparts. The Hospital includes an operating room, equipped with an operating light, a heart monitoring machine, an oxygen canister with an oxygen mask, an IV pole, bag, and cuff, and a mobile ultrasound machine with an attached paddle. The operating bed is adjustable and the operating light may be moved or tilted to best "illuminate" the patient. The Hospital also features a reception area complete with an office phone, computer, notebooks, and office furniture. There is also a Child Life play area equipped with "board games," several chairs and a table, and a friendly clown and wagon. The children's examination area contains a scale and giraffe measuring stick. Patient care is provided in a nursery area and a self-contained private room. Many of the features included in the Hospital are child-powered. For example, the elevator may be moved up and down. The operating table, crib, and patient's bed are all adjustable. Staff members include a male and female physician and a couple of nurses. Moreover, a clown volunteers his time to cheer up the hospitalized children.
A myriad of smaller accessories accompanies this offering: a cell phone with charger, assorted lotions, baby food, juice, a pitcher with four cups, vase and flowers, three flannel towels, a baby blanket, three baby bottles and a bottle warmer, a baby scale, office furniture, a large cardboard "rug, an oboe, an accordion, plants, stethoscope, and even a teddy bear. Many of these items are often omitted in other sets you may see. I have painstakingly inventoried everything and like I said, the only thing missing is the one small "game." I inserted a couple of extra oxygen tubes and IV cuff to help compensate for this missing piece.
FYI, Playmobil toys are reknowned for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendibility of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, headdresses, shoes, sandals, stethoscope, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and to reflect actual life scenarios. Several of the animals have mouths that open and close and the elephants' trunks can pick up buckets by their handles etc..
All of Playmobil's play sets revolve around established "themes" familiar to young children (e.g. Medieval Castles and Knights, Pirates, Western Forts, Native Americans, Trains, Stage Coaches, Gold Mines, Circuses, Zoos, Victorian Mansions, Fairy Tale Castles, Sherwood Forest, Construction, Doctors and Dentists' Offices, Hospitals, Airports, Modern Homes etc.). Due to the level of detail, children's imaginations are afforded endless open-ended play opportunities. Not only do these toys broaden a child's imagination, creativity, attention, and use of elaborate oral narratives, they also facilitate a child's cooperative and dramatic play skills and fine motor capabilities. These toys conform to the highest production standards of quality and safety in accordance with European and American safety guidelines. The toys, while primarily manufactured in Germany, also are produced in Malta and Spain. They are distributed in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
I can vouch for the high quality and play value these toys afford. My own children played with a variety of these sets up until age 13! Talk about getting "your bang for the buck." Several of them were employed in school diorama projects. What a lifesaver! I also used them with my preschool and school aged clients for speech-language therapy. They'd be great for families that are home-schooling their children. One of my former customers, a radiologist, provided a rousing endorsement regarding the level of detail in this set and its overall accurate depiction of hospital life. This is a set that will intrigue your children for years, not hours.
Due to the small, intricate parts, Playmobil recommends that these toys be reserved for children 4 years of age and up. However, my daughter, who never mouthed her toys and was advanced for her age, received her first Playmobil toys at 2 1/2 years of age. Adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age.
As I mentioned, this set does come with its original box. The box does display some wear (e.g. several rubs, multiple creases, edge wear, some bowing of the top of the box, some extraneous tape etc). On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect, I would rate this box as being an 8.0/10.0. The poster exhibits one 3/4" tear under the depicted baby's bathtub and another 1/8" tear on the seam at the top of the hospital poster. All in all, I would afford this poster as being a 9.0/10.0. The small Playmobil pamphlet is in MINT condition (10.0/10.0)
Don't miss out on this INCREDIBLE play set! It weighs 12 lbs. UNWRAPPED and my location is Lafayette, IN (47905). With padding, it'll probably weigh between 16 - 17 lbs and will require an oversized box to protect the original box. I will do my best to keep the weight down but my first priority is to insure the safety of the item. I will be shipping this via Fed Ex Home Delivery. To ship via Fed Ex, I must have a residential or work place address, not a P.O. Box, and a contact phone number (e.g. home, cell, work place). Otherwise, Fed Ex will not accept the package for shipment.
