RARE Vintage Playmobil #5310
Victorian Den Suite/Living Room
Complete w/Box and Original Instructions
NEAR MINT/ (E)

In the mid 1950's, I used to walk down the gravel road from my Grandparents' house to my Great Aunt's home. I loved visiting her because it was like stepping back in time. My Great Aunt didn't have running water, indoor plumbing, electricity or any other modern conveniences. At 80 years of age, she milked her dairy cows by hand, lugged the heavy milk containers up to her Spring House, and lifted the containers up into the tub that was cooled by spring water. She similarly hauled in coal to stoke her coal furnace then lit her kerosene lamps so she could read the paper or a book. Sometimes she would sit in her rocker and make braided rugs for the floor. I used to sit at her feet, soothed by the peacefulness, and marvel at her stamina and skills.
Here's your chance to take a step back in time. For sale is a complete, Vintage Playmobil #5310 Victorian Den Suite/Living Room play set. Designed to accompany Playmobil's CLASSIC #5300 Large Victorian Mansion, this set was produced during from 1995-1997. It's one of the hardest sets to find complete and in this condition (NEAR MINT). It also comes with its original instructions and unused stickers for the newspaper and photo.
The set features a bearded Grandfather figure wearing a vest, fez, and slippers, sitting in his wing-back chair next to a cozy fire, and reading his newspaper. A fold down secretary desk is available whenever he wishes to write his grandchildren. For storage, he can open and close the secretary's drawers. True to the time period involved, he employs a feathered quill, ink pot, and pad of paper when he writes letters to his family. Fireplace tools and pieces of chopped wood are stored next to the fire so that he can heat the room. An avid reader, he proudly displays several volumes of books on the mantle along with a family picture. The detail in this set is incredible---even down to the pretend print and pictures shown in the newspaper, a couple of cats, a pet basket, and a pedestal table to hold his book or "glass" goblet. All of the accessories and figures reflect the Victorian era of the late 1890's and early 1900's.
FYI, Playmobil toys have been renowned world-wide for 40 years for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendibility of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, hair bows, shoes, sandals, stethoscope, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of "add-on" sets featuring vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and reflect actual life scenarios.
All of Playmobil's play sets revolve around established "themes" familiar to young children. Sets may be used interchangeably. Due to the level of detail, children's imaginations are afforded endless open-ended play opportunities. Not only do these toys broaden a child's imagination, creativity, attention, and use of elaborate oral narratives, they also facilitate a child's cooperative and dramatic play skills and fine motor capabilities. These toys conform to the highest production standards of quality and safety in accordance with European and American safety guidelines. The toys, while primarily manufactured in Germany, also are produced in Malta and Spain. They are distributed in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
It should be noted that Playmobil created this set for children ages 4 years and up; however, my daughter, who never mouthed her toys and was advanced for her age, received the Playmobil #5300 Victorian Mansion at 2 1/2 years of age. She played with this set up and many of the accessory play sets until she was 13 years of age. Talk about "getting a bang out of your buck." Now, at 30 years of age, she has given me explicit instructions not to sell her sets---she wants to save them for her future children. In general, though, adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age. Last but not least, these toys are great for school diorama projects or for families that are home-schooling their children.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!
This set weighs 14 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905). Due to the size and weight of this item, I will probably be sending it via Priority Mail.
