Vintage Playmobil #5322 Victorian Kitchen
Complete/ Near Mint (F) (retired)

In the mid 1950's, I used to walk down the gravel road from my Grandparents' house to my Great Aunt's home. I loved visiting her because it was like stepping back in time. My Great Aunt didn't have running water, indoor plumbing, electricity or any other modern conveniences. At 80 years of age, she kept her own dairy cows, chickens, and a large garden. She was a marvelous cook. She cooked, baked, and canned on a stove just like this one. She stoked it with corn cobs to keep the fire going. She obtained water from a hand pump on her enclosed porch and cooled her perishables by putting them on the stairwell going to the second floor which wasn't heated. She shamelessly spoiled me by making me all kinds of homemade cookies and miniature pies. This set reminds me so much of her.
Replicating a kitchen from days long passed, is a complete, Vintage Playmobil #5322 Victorian Kitchen play set. Designed to accompany Playmobil's CLASSIC #5300 Large Victorian Mansion, this set was the original kitchen set manufactured by Playmobil and was produced from 1990-1992. Due to its many pieces, it's one of the harder sets to find complete and in this condition (NEAR MINT).
The set features a hearty Cook, wearing her brown uniform, yellow collar, and white apron and bonnet. Presiding over the Mansion's kitchen, she creates all kinds of scrumptious meals on her old-fashioned cook stove. There is a warming bin on top of the stove (under the white lid) to keep rolls and pies warm till mealtime, an oven that really opens and closes and can hold a roasting pan, a bottom drawer to keep miscellaneous cooking tools at hand, and a hanging rack for all of her everyday cooking accessories. Her plates, cups, and canisters may be exhibited on the rack above her dry sink or in her handsome hutch. The latter can also house cutlery in its drawers. All of the hutch's doors open and shut to allow ready access to a frying pan, pot and lid, and a roaster. The Cook's cleaning supplies are handily stored in a basket and on a stand created for that purpose. A table and four matching chairs accompany the kitchen set and provide seating for the Cook and her son. A cat waits nearby to pounce on any "left overs." All of the accessories, tools and figures reflect the Victorian era of the late 1890's and early 1900's.
FYI, Playmobil toys have been renowned world-wide for 40 years for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendibility of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, hair bows, shoes, sandals, stethoscope, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of "add-on" sets featuring vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and reflect actual life scenarios.
All of Playmobil's play sets revolve around established "themes" familiar to young children. Sets may be used interchangeably. Due to the level of detail, children's imaginations are afforded endless open-ended play opportunities. Not only do these toys broaden a child's imagination, creativity, attention, and use of elaborate oral narratives, they also facilitate a child's cooperative and dramatic play skills and fine motor capabilities. These toys conform to the highest production standards of quality and safety in accordance with European and American safety guidelines. The toys, while primarily manufactured in Germany, also are produced in Malta and Spain. They are distributed in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
It should be noted that Playmobil created this set for children ages 4 years and up; however, my daughter, who never mouthed her toys and was advanced for her age, received the Playmobil #5300 Victorian Mansion at 2 1/2 years of age. She played with this set up and many of the accessory play sets until she was 13 years of age. Talk about "getting a bang out of your buck." Now, at 26 years of age, she has given me explicit instructions not to sell her sets---she wants to save them for her future children. In general, though, adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age. Last but not least, these toys are great for school diorama projects or for families that are home-schooling their children.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!
This set weighs 11 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905). Due to the size and weight of this item, I will probably be sending it via Priority Mail.
