Vintage Playskool #382 Cook and Serve Play Grill 98% Complete
Very Good ++-Excellent (A)

Here is a delightful vintage Playskool #382 Cook and Serve Play Grill for your consideration. Manufactured in 1978, this set offered an opportunity for boys and girls to
imitate adults "cooking" and "serving" customers lots of delicious meals. The set consists of a red-orange cook top grill, a blue skillet, a blue coffee pot and lid, a yellow plate and cup, a red-orange spoon, fork, and spatula, a blue apron with pockets and Playskool imprinted on the apron, and 12 cardboard disks depicting assorted common foods. The yellow plate can also double as a lid for the frying pan. The cooktop has slots where the cooking utensils and disks may be stored. In addition, the yellow grill may be removed to
allow storage of some of the cookware. FYI, this particular offering is missing two of the food disks and the Playskool apron. Otherwise, it is complete and in Very Good ++-Excellent condition.
This set employs a novel concept to enhance the child's imagination. Each of the cardboard disks portrays a picture of an uncooked version of a common food on one side of the card and its "cooked" counterpart on the other side of the card. Thus,
children can visually perceive the connection between raw ingredients and the final consumable food product. Besides pictures of the "uncooked" and "cooked" foods, each picture is paired with the printed words corresponding to that picture. This helps develop the child's emergent literacy skills (e.g. that printed words have meaning and purpose etc.). Food items included in this offering are: green beans, chicken legs, bacon, hamburgers, pork chops, French toast, corn, fish, eggs, and French fries. The cards are color coded to promote success---foods paired with a blue background coincides with the "uncooked" foods while the
yellow background represents the "cooked" final product.
This set provides a tangible way to work on several language-based concepts: before/after, cooked/uncooked, hot/cold, action vocabulary (e.g. such as fry, cook, cut, slice, peel, pour, flip, burn stir etc.) and Where questions (e.g. "Where do we get hamburgers? Where do we get eggs? Where do we get French fries etc.?").
All of the components are in EXC condition or above except for the cardboard disks and some wear on the Cook and Serve Grill main logo (e.g. a vertical crease between the "E" and "R" in "SERVE," a semi-circular tear on the bottom edge of the litho, and one,
pin-head size brown spot on the upper edge of the same litho). Both the cardboard disks and the grill itself are in VG++
condition.
This set weighs approximately 1 lb. 9 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905).
