Vintage Fisher Price Little People
#990 A-Frame House Complete
1974 Version with Wood/Plastic LP
NEAR MINT --MINT! (P)

Do you like to ski? Here for your consideration is an iconic treasure often associated with ski resorts---a Fisher Price Play Family #990 A-Frame play set!!! Manufactured between 1974-76, this play set is 100% complete and in NEAR MINT--MINT condition. It also features four Wood/Plastic LITTLE PEOPLE. I have configured this set according to the 1974 Fisher Price specs (e.g. according to www.thisoldtoy.com).
This base has definitely been cherished. After repeated scrutiny, the only "flaws" I can ascertain are:
1. Some very minor edge wear on the lower edge of the main Fisher Price exterior litho;
2. Some light scuffing on the sliding doors next to the bell;
3. Some light soiling which I'm confident will come off during the cleaning process.
That's it!!!!! I'm being extremely "nit-picky" here. All of the plastic hinges are intact, the sliding doors operate as designed, and the bell rings merrily to welcome its occupants. The aqua coloration is uniform throughout (e.g. no darkening with age) and there are no chips, marks, cracks, repairs, or stains of any kind on any of the plastic surfaces. This is a heirloom quality base.
Besides this STUNNING Fisher Price play base, the set includes the following accessories:
1 VHTF 4 rung white ladder (NEAR MINT--MINT);
1 RARE, red/white 4 seater jeep with Fisher Price written on its wheels (NEAR MINT--MINT);
1 HTF 3 legged yellow grill w/litho (EXC--some minor edge wear on one side of the litho);
4 RARE, yellow stacking bunk beds (VG++ missing original foam; I will be replacing the original foam with hard foam inserts (see photos); I will not be gluing these "mattresses" into place so if you don't wish to keep them, you'll be able to easily remove them; all of the beds still have their original "pegs" so they latch together easily and firmly); with the foam replacements in place, these bunk beds will garner an EXC+++-NEAR MINT rating);
1 VHTF white picnic table with litho (VG++--litho has but cut on corners of litho; if you wish, I can apply a replacement litho for this piece);
NOTE: FYI, THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL LITHOS. I DO NOT USE REPLACEMENT LITHOS ON MY SETS. IF A LITHO IS MISSING OR DAMAGED EXTENSIVELY, I OCCASIONALLY OFFER THE BUYER A REPLACEMENT LITHO. HOWEVER, I DO NOT APPLY THESE LITHOS MYSELF. I LEAVE IT TOTALLY UP TO THE DISCRETION OF THE BUYER WHETHER THEY WISH TO UTILIZE THESE. I PROVIDE THESE REPLACEMENT LITHOS AT NO CHARGE TO THE BUYER. FOR THIS SET, I AM OFFERING A REPLACEMENT LITHO FOR THE PICNIC TABLE. ONCE THIS REPRODUCTION LITHO IS APPLIED,THIS TABLE WILL BE IN NEAR MINT--MINT CONDITION.
These reproduction lithos are the finest replacement lithos out there. The lady that makes these lithos is in British Columbia,Canada, and has been making these for over 10 years. She uses a heavy duty True-Block paper with a peel off sticky back along with a professional grade printer. She calibrates her printer to match a set of unused, vintage FP lithos she procured from a former FP employee. These replacement lithos are as close as you can come to the real deal. Her replacement lithos are water resistant. You may see other competitors out there. However, the ink on their lithos is not water resistant and the paper is of inferior quality. All the buyer needs to do is peel off the sticky back on the reproduction litho and apply it to the clean, metal roof. OR IF THE BUYER PREFERS, I WILL REPLACE THE LITHOS FOR YOU.
2 HTF white picnic benches (NEAR MINT);
2 HTF yellow chaise lounge chairs (MINT); and
2 HTF yellow captain's chairs with triangles on the back (MINT).
This particular offering also includes 4 WOOD/plastic Little People and 1 ALL PLASTIC LUCKY. All are in NEAR MINT condition except for the green-bodied Dad who exhibits some minor paint loss on his back upper body, his belt, and the bottom of the piece; I'm going to look through my collection of LP to see if I can find another Dad in NEAR MINT condition so that he doesn't look like the "poor man out" in his family; :
The A-Frame and all of its accessories will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaned prior to sending it to its new owners. I spend a MINIMUM of 1 1/2 -6 hours cleaning each and every VINTAGE Fisher Price Little People play set I sell (except for those clearly marked in MY ROUGH ROOM). I utilize a variety of cleaning products---Dawn dish washing soap with anti-bacterial ingredients, Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, Goo-Gone, Crayon-Away, Chlorox Bleach pen, Soft Scrub, Comet, Windex, Naval Jelly, Armor All etc. along with a child's toothbrush, toothpicks, and Q-tips to give these sets a detailed cleaning. My sets are IMMACULATE! All you have to do is unpack and enjoy them.
This would make an AWESOME gift for any avid Fisher Price COLLECTOR! It would also make a WONDERFUL gift for some lucky child.
NOTE: This play set is not a part of the recent recall of Fisher Price toys manufactured in China. This set was produced in the good, ole' U.S.A. in 1975. It's hard to imagine this set is 46 years young! They sure don't make toys the way they used to!
For those who have been given information that vintage Fisher Price Little People toys are dangerous, I'd like to offer some supplemental and contradicting information that is out there. First of all, Fisher Price products from the 1930's to 1990 were manufactured in the United States. A few of the Fun-with-Food play set components (1988-1990) and a few accessories for some of the later manufactured FP products were produced in Hong Kong. Mattel purchased Fisher Price in 1991 and subsequently shifted all production of FP toys to China.. If you look carefully at some of the information that is out there, problems with cadium being in these and other toys made in China (e.g. girls' jewelry), was discovered around 2007. There were also some other dangerous chemicals found in certain stretch plastic toys (e.g. some Barbies etc.).
The supposed issues regarding lead being in the vintage FP play sets (prior to 1990) has been exaggerated. Yes, some lead was found in the yellow, red, or black paint or plastic of these vintage toys. However, MedMD noted that this lead was not transmitted through the skin (e.g. a child's hand etc. or by just touching the item). In order for it to be a problem, the child had to put the items in their mouth and chew on them. Most of the FP play sets, with the exception of the FP #930 Garage (which was created for 2 year olds and up), were designed for 3 year olds and up. Adult supervision was recommended for children under 3 or for any child that was still mouthing or chewing on their toys. If they're not mouthing or chewing the Little People and their paint or the yellow ramp on the Garage, the toys are safe.

Lastly, the other big issue that is often reported regarding these vintage Fisher Price toys is that they were removed from the market because they were considered to be a choking hazard. I used to be the Director of Children's Services for two separate, five county developmental disability agencies here in Indiana. I secured a U.S. government issued plastic tube (or choking tube) to test all the toys we had in our agencies. None of these LP would fit through this tube; hence they were safe for a child when supervised and if they were not gnawing or chewing on the toys. I also worked at Texas Children's Hospital (a subsidiary of Baylor College of Medicine) in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX, for five years. I saw toddlers and preschoolers from all over the world. We used some of these FP toys with some of our clients. Once again, we never had any problems with them. Finally, I worked as a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and University Supervisor in Purdue University's Graduate Speech Pathology training program and Purdue University's Child Development and Family Studies Preschool and Daycare classrooms. These vintage FP toys were utilized in all of these settings with no harmful side effects. Once again, they were not introduced to children under 3 or those who were still mouthing or chewing their toys.
SO, in summary, purchasers should refrain from allowing children under 3 years of age to play with these toys without adult supervision or to offer these toys to children who may be still mouthing their toys.
Due to some small parts, children under 3 years of age or those still mouthing their toys should not be given these toys to play with unsupervised. Adult supervision is highly recommended.
