Vintage Playmobil #5315
Victorian Cozy Den
Complete w/Box, Instructions, Pamphlet
NEAR MINT/ C
(retired)

Here's a wonderful add-on set to accompany Playmobil's Classic #5300 Victorian Mansion. It's Grandpa's #5315 Cozy Den replete with a blazing fireplace that really works (e.g. lights flash simulating a flickering fireplace; the lights shut off at a predetermined time so as not to exhaust the battery), a comfy wing back chair with foot rest, HTF tan slippers, fireplace tools, a VHTF newspaper, a small pedestal table, fireplace tools with a stack of wood to stoke the fire, a yellow green goblet (e.g. Note: I substituted this goblet in lieu of the green goblet normally associated with this set), a faithful chocolate colored dog and other accessories to add to the overall warmth of the room. Grandpa alone, with his glasses, blue fez with a gold tassel, and rust orange vest is VHTF. As the patriarch of the family, he well deserves some peace and quiet to read his daily newspaper. I remember my Grandpa faithfully getting up every morning at 4:00 AM to read his newspaper. Heaven help the newspaper boy if he was late delivering Grandpa's paper!
Manufactured in Germany for only two years (e.g. 1999-2000), it is hard to find one of these sets with all of its accessories, box, pamphlet, and original instructions. In my opinion, this set warrants a NEAR MINT rating. The box demonstrates some minor edge and corner wear, the remnants of a price tag, and with some creasing on the end flap. All in all, I would rate this box as being a 9.0/10.0 with 10 being the highest. It's perfect for display and/or to serve as a reference regarding the pieces compiling this set.
FYI, Playmobil toys have been renowned world-wide for 40 years for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendibility of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, hair bows, shoes, sandals, stethoscope, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of "add-on" sets featuring vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and reflect actual life scenarios.
It should be noted that Playmobil created this set for children ages 4 years and up; however, my daughter, who never mouthed her toys and was advanced for her age, received the Playmobil #5300 Victorian Mansion at 2 1/2 years of age. She played with this set and many of the accessory play sets until she was 13 years of age. Talk about "getting a bang out of your buck." Now, at 30 years of age, she has given me explicit instructions not to sell her sets---she wants to save them for her future children. In general, though, adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age. Last but not least, these toys are great for school diorama projects or for families that are home-schooling their children.
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!
This set weighs 8 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905). Due to the size and weight of this item, I will probably be sending it inside an outer protective box via either First Class or Priority Mail.
